Vídeo CD Akira Kurosawa’s DREAMS (importado)
Sonhos , de Akira Kurosawa
A unique title in Kurosawa Akira’s unparalleled filmography, his 1990 work Yume (a.k.a. Akira Kurosawa’s Dreams) consists of eight dream sequences based on the director’s actual dreams at different points in his life. Kurosawa is the undisputed grand master of Japanese cinema, and Yume is perhaps the work that is closest to the director himself, a masterpiece that drifts through time, fables, and imagined worlds. Spare in dialogue and rich in imagery, the anthology captures the hypnotic dreams and harrowing nightmares of a singular mind.
A young boy surreptitiously watches a fox spirit wedding procession in a forest on a sunny rainy day. Dolls come alive in a treeless peach orchard. A mysterious woman appears to a group of mountaineers caught in an unforgiving blizzard. An army officer encounters the ghosts of his past in a seemingly endless dark tunnel. An art student travels through a world made up of Van Gogh’s works, encountering the artist (played by Martin Scorceses) in a field. The sky turns bloody red after a nuclear power plant meltdown, and five people stay behind as everyone flees for the ocean. A man encounters a demon-like man while drifting in a wasted post-apocalyptic land. A young traveler comes to a quiet, idyllic village where the people have decided to return to simpler times to reverse the damage caused by modern technology. Though eight separate stories, the themes and imagery painted in the shorts weave together into a message-laden whole.
